New York circa 1905 is a time and place where rigid social divides along the lines of race, religion, and class exist alongside a burgeoning population of immigrants from abroad and people from all over the U.S., who have moved to the city to seek their fortunes, bringing diversity, excitement,and change. Esther Mills, a skilled African-American seamstress, is able to navigate this changing, dangerous world with her needle and thread, as her talents are much in demand.

:: Kimberly L. Brown :: (Esther) has been seen on many stages in the Cleveland area. Credits include Lines In The Dust & In The Continuum (CPT), Sassy Mamas & For colored girls... (Karamu) and Ten Minutes From Cleveland (Dobama). Director of CMSD's All-City Arts program, Kimberly oversees arts programming, grant reporting and community partnerships. She spent years using song & theater to teach literacy to Pre-K through 3rd grade students and has directed the annual All-City Musical for eleven consecutive years.
:: Reva Golden :: (Mrs. Dickson) is an Akron Ohio Native. She graduated from Buchtel High School then furthered her education at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio studying Theater. In 1984 she moved to Houston Texas and began her acting career at the Houston Ensemble Theater where she was seen in productions of Hatful of Rain as Celia Pope, Do Lord Remember Me as the Ghost Slave Woman and as Keentseng a domestic servent in Homeland. Upon moving back to Ohio she she was involved in several productions at Magical Theater Company most recent playing the role of Harriett Tubman in Harriet an American Moses and Calpurnia in To Kill a Mockingbird reprising that role in Weathervane Playhouse’s Production of Mockingbird. Currently Reva is a Teaching Artist at Clevleand Public Theater and is thrilled to be a part of Intimate Apparel. Life is GOOD!!!!!
:: Leilani Barrett* :: (George) (SAG-AFTRA/AEA) An actor, dancer, choreographer and voice over artist for film, television, and commercial was last seen on the Ensemble stage as Asagai in “A Raisin in the Sun”, Roosevelt Hicks in Radio Golf, and Tom in Bengal Tiger at The Baghdad Zoo. A native of Cleveland,Ohio and graduate of Cleveland School of the Arts, Leilani continued his education at The Ohio State University before leaving to join the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Co. in New York City. Local stage credits include the title role in Othello, Edmund the Bastard in King Lear, Henry Bolingbroke in Richard II, The Ghost of Christmas Present in Great Lakes Theater’s A Christmas Carol. In addition to his stage work, Mr. Barrett’s voice can be heard in commercials for Cincinnati Bell, Subway, McDonalds and First Energy and on camera he can be seen in the studio films “Reel Steel” with Hugh Jackman, “Draft Day” with Kevin Costner, “Dog Eat Dog” with Nicholas Cage and Agent Mike in “The Big Ugly” with Ron Perlman. Leilani is proud to have the opportunity to return to Ensemble and is grateful to his family for all their love and support. :: Diane Frankhauser :: (Mrs. Van Buren) is grateful to be returning to Ensemble Theatre so quickly! Recent credits include The Penelopiad at Ensemble, Yankee Tavern and The Late Henry Moss at none too fragile, and The Comedy of Errors, The Three Musketeers, and Robin Hood: An Adventure with Music at Ohio Shakespeare Festival. She is a recent recipient of the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2019 48 Hour Film Festival for her work in Being John McClane. She is a proud Wright State University alumna and has toured with The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey in their Next Stage Ensemble Tour of Twelfth Night. When not on-stage you will usually find her at the Houde School of Acting in downtown Cleveland. Special thanks to her parents, many teachers, The Talent Group, Heyman Talent, and Matthew.”
:: Craig Joseph :: ( Mr. Marks) is pleased to return to the Ensemble stage where he's previously been seen in productions of Well, Angels in America, and Alabama Story. In addition, he's directed and been onstage at theaters across Northeast Ohio, including Dobama, Players Guild Theatre, Playwrights Local, Weathervane Playhouse, and more. During the day, Craig is an adjunct professor at Malone and Mount Union universities, does a ton of freelance writing, curates art exhibits, and plays with lots of dogs. He's the proud artistic director of Seat of the Pants Productions, which he founded in 2012 (www.seatofthepants.org). Many thanks to you for your support of live theater!
:: Zyrece Montgomery :: (Mayme) is currently an Actor-Teacher for Great Lakes Theater. She is a graduate of Cleveland School of the Arts and Ohio University with a bachelors in Theater Performance. Some of her most recent roles have been Oracle in The Penelopiad, Cammy in Himalayan Dreams, Abdellah in About a Ghoul, Beneatha in A Raisin in the Sun, Olivia in Twelfth Night, Friar Laurencia in Romeo and Juliet, and Mom in The Marilyn Bianchi Kids Playwright Festival. Zyrece is excited to be returning to the Ensemble stage. She would like to thank God for all of his blessings in her life.

:: Sarah May :: (Director) is thrilled to be back home at Ensemble Theatre to direct Lynn Nottage's beautiful American classic Intimate Apparel. Sarah's past Ensemble shows include the award-winning revival of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart, Thurgood starring Greg White, three mountings of Conor McPherson's St. Nicholas featuring Dana Hart, Horton Foote's Dividing the Estate, Paul Robeson, Having Our Say: The Delaney Sisters' First One Hundred Years, and many others. Sarah’s work as a director is well known in the Cleveland area. Some highlights include: The Pitmen Painters, Race, Wings (starring Dorothy Silver) Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and The History Boys, all for The Beck Center; as well as the Dobama/Karamu collaborations of Tony Kushner's Caroline or Change, Fires in the Mirror, and The Grapes of Wrath. She received two Northern Ohio Live awards for Six Degrees of Separation for Charenton Theatre and A Piece of My Heart at Beck. Sarah spent 10 years in New York City performing, directing, and developing educational theatre programs for Playwrights Horizons, The Henry Street Settlement, and The Roundabout Theatre. She returned to Cleveland in the 1980’s to serve as Director of Education for Great Lakes Theatre Festival and Artistic Director of Karamu Theatre. She dedicates this production to the memory Dr. A Grace Lee Mims, beloved Artist, Teacher, Broadcaster, and Advocate for the Black Arts.
:: Jeannine Gaskin :: (Assistant Director/Production Assistant) was last seen at Cleveland Public Theatre in the world premiere of Lisa Langford's "Rastus and Hattie". She also performed in the world premiere of Central Concern written by Pandora Robertson at the same theater. She has performed at Karamu in “Day of Absence” by Douglas Turner Ward and "You Can't Take It With You" by George Kaufman. She was seen at Convergence Continuum in her award-winning performance as Hester La Negrita in “In the Blood” by Suzan-Lori Parks. Other credits include the unconventional comedy “Neighbors” by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and Margaret Alexander in “The Amen Corner” by James Baldwin. While theatre is her first love, she has been a part of multiple film projects in Cleveland. She landed her first principal role in the Lifetime film "With This Ring". She had a lead role in the 2016 48hr Film Festival Award Winning film "A Sweet Christmas". She also had the lead role in a local film "Milkweed" written by John Dayo-Aliya which premiered this past summer.
